History of our Relationship & Accomplishments
2004: Haiti Team ’s first visit to Haiti. First experience in a 3rd world country. Purpose is to find our “Twin” and begin a long relationship. We agreed that St. Gerard was to be our Twin.
2005: Team makes return visit and begins needs analysis with Fr. Claude.
2006: Because of our continued support Fr. Claude opened 3 schools.
2007: Parish House/Gathering Center project begins.
2009: We receive first look at Parish House. 1 st floor is complete and Fr. Claude has moved in! A 6 -room school was built. Students are now receiving lunch as well.
2010: Earthquake strikes Port -au -Prince. Travel to Haiti was deterred. Madame Combe Chapel was destroyed.
2011: Fundraising efforts for Madame Combe Chapel. Monthly support continues.
2012: $7,000 sent to St. Gerard to help fund reconstruction of Madame Combe Chapel.
2013: Roof completed for Madame Combe Chapel. Monthly support continues.
2014: Collect furnishings for Madame Combe Chapel. Monthly support continues.
2015: Shipped church furnishings to Les Cayes.
2016: Hurricane Matthew
2017: Mission Trip to Haiti. Monitored the Damage of Hurricane Matthew and reconstruction efforts. Renewal of Twinning relationship.
2018- present: Continue with monthly financial support. Continue paying teacher's salaries. Civil unrest prohibits travel to Haiti.
2021: Devastating earthquake levels St. Gerard's church, rectory and parish center.
